The Mom-Swap AU, otherwise known as Momswapped, Crystalswapped, or Role Reversal AU is a Alternate Universe in the Steven Universe fanon in which the canon characters Jasper, Peridot, and Lapis Lazuli replace the roles of Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet as Steven Universe's caregivers and guardians of Earth.

About[]

The idea for the Alternate Universe began on March 14, 2015 by Deviantart user BubbleDriver, who made the first piece and concept of the Mom-Swapped AU, two days after the release of "The Return" and "Jail Break" aired, and as such, Jasper's official debut.

As Jasper, Peridot, and Lapis play the Crystal Gem role, some versions depict the original Crystal Gems replacing their roles as well, even depictions showing characters such as Rose Quartz replacing the role of Yellow Diamond, or Connie Maheswaran replacing Steven on rare occasion.

Characters[]

  • Crystal Gems (Mom-Swap)
    • Jasper - Jasper is often depicted as the leader of the Crystal Gems, her role and behavior usually filling in either Garnet.
    • Peridot - As a Crystal Gem, Peridot is often portrayed as the AU equivalent to Pearl, given how similarly they both behave to eachother, and their extensive knowledge of Homeworld.
    • Lapis Lazuli - most depictions of Lapis have her role akin to Amethyst, namely as a fun-loving close friend to Steven.
    • Steven Universe - Much of these depictions often don't change Steven from his current role as Rose's successor, though rare instances do have him under a different parent and some replace Steven with Connie
  • Homeworld Gems
    • Garnet - Depictions of Garnet within this AU often place her as Jasper due to her strength, and hot-headed nature that comes up from Ruby.
    • Pearl - Pearl is mostly placed in Peridot's role in this AU, though depictions of her replacing Lapis's role also exist, though these are exceptionally rarer.
    • Amethyst - Amethyst mainly is placed in the role of Lapis Lazuli.
